Cape Town
South Africa

One of the world's most spectacular cities.

Rightly ranked as one of the top 5 most spectacular cities in the world, Cape
Town’s appeal is many fold.

The sparkling ocean at its footstep, the majestic Table Mountain behind, the buzzing cosmopolitan city with its many fine restaurants and shops, and the advent of the V & A Waterfront, all add to its appeal.
Cape Town and it's History

Whatever your expectations, Cape Town rarely disappoints. The relaxed way of life and easy access to the Cape of Good Hope and the Winelands make it a place that you will want to return to time and time again.

Cape Town is often referred to as The Mother City of South Africa. Well before the first known European explorers arrived in 1487 the Cape area had been the home of roaming tribes of Bushmen and Hottentot natives.

However it was the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck in 1652 sent by the Dutch East India Company to set up a provisioning station for ships heading to the Dutch East Indies that really founded Cape Town as we know it today. The Company Gardens and the fort are still today ‘must do’ visits in Cape Town.

Its spectacular setting on the Atlantic Ocean with the magnificent Table Mountain providing the backdrop have rightly gained it the accolade as one of the world’s most beautiful cities.

Cape Town explained

Cape Town in effect is a series of smaller neighbours each offering something different and interesting. You should try them all but the following may help you decide the area best suited for you to stay.

The City Bowl

This is the city centre area which includes the V&A , the Gold Market and many of the quality shops in Cape Town. There are many fine restaurants in the area around Kloof Street.

Sea Point and Bantry Bay

Recently regenerated, this area is a popular spot with both residents of Cape Town and visitors alike. The sea front promenade provides for some good walks and there are several great restaurants in this area. Great views of the sea.

Camps Bay

The most popular beach area in Cape Town with sweeping beaches and a sunset view that is amongst the best in the world. The restaurants in this area are world renowned and you should plan to eat one night in Camps Bay.

Tamboerskloof and Gardens

Located within walking distance of the city centre and on the slopes of Table Mountain. Adjacent to the Malay quarter founded by the slaves imported by the Dutch East India Company. If you like spicy food then a ‘must visit’.

Constantia and Newlands

On the eastern slopes of Table Mountain this area is one of the oldest settled areas of what is now Cape Town. Originally farm land and vineyards it is now a tranquil suburb with a pleasant mix of homes, hotels and guest houses. It also is home to the Newlands sports centre and the oldest vineyard in South Africa.
