The Independent Traveller is part of a small family owned group of companies called Uni-Travel Limited. We dont want to just be known for providing great holidays for our customers, we also want to give something back. So read below about some of the projects we are getting involved with.
We thought you would like to know...
For many people, South Africa conjures up images of wildlife, safaris, vast open spaces and little else. This is how we start many of our emails, with a little something to whet the appetite. Well this email is different, we thought you would like to know what else The Independent Traveller does in South Africa. One thing we do that we don't shout about is that we work with and support some charity projects in South Africa, such as Sevenoaks School (who work on a building project at Mula Mula).

Sevenoaks School and Mula Mula
Sevenoaks public school is one of the leading UK academic schools and widely recognised within Europe as being perhaps the leading school for the international bachelorette. As such it attracts quite a large number of overseas students and as you would imagine from a wealth of background. Rowan Thompson, a teacher at Sevenoaks, is married to a lady who was originally from the Mula Mula. The village community was badly in need of a new village centre in what is a very deprived area of Mpumalanga Province. Rowan is an IT specialist and put together some drawings to build (primarily from local materials). The school raised funds through its charity projects to support the build and worked with the community to support this initiative. The children at Sevenoaks and sthe chool have raised substantial sums of money for this project and each year students go out to physically help with moving the project on. Phase 1 of the project is now nearing completion but there are other projects in the pipeline. We have supported this work by severely discounting our prices for the Sevenoaks trip each year to make the trip more accessible to as many students as possible. This, in turn, has released funds for the building work and we are proud supporters of this cause.

The School project of Cape St. Francis Resort
The school project of Cape St. Francis Resort and its associated knitting project is something that we are wanting to support. We are wanting to do it in two separate ways. Firstly, we want to encourage you, if you choose to stay at Cape St Francis Resort, to save a couple of kilos of luggage space and take out with you school books, paper, pens, materials etc, which you can quite simply leave at the front desk on arrival and they will get delivered to the project directly. Secondly, we are going to donate directly to the project a percentage of every single booking to Cape St. Francis made by our customers on an annual basis.

However, you can also do your bit if you wish. Cape St Francis run a tour which you pay for directly, 100% of the fees from 'Betty’s Tour' goes directly to the school and the knitting project. You may also wish to support by buying one of the items from the knitting factory which are of exceptionally high quality and sold at source at wholesale rate.
